How is coffee strength determined?

Coffee strength mainly depends on the type of beans used and the blend composition. A coffee made with 100% Arabica is generally smooth and mild in flavour. The higher the proportion of Robusta in a blend, the stronger and more intense the coffee becomes.

  • More Arabica = smooth, mild and rounded flavours.
  • More Robusta = bold, powerful and slightly bitter.

The grind size also matters

  • Fine grind: ideal for espresso – intense and concentrated.
  • Coarse grind: better suited for filter coffee or French press – smoother and more subtle.

Is your coffee tasting too weak? Try a finer grind. Too bitter or too strong? A slightly coarser grind may improve the balance.
