How to make a Latte Macchiato – classic layered coffee
Latte Macchiato is the best-known layered coffee. With warm milk, espresso and milk foam, three distinct layers are created in a tall glass. At De Koffiebaron, we show you how to make it easily at home.
What you need
- 1 tall glass
- 200 ml warm milk
- 1 espresso or strong coffee
- Milk foam
- A spoon to gently pour the espresso
Step-by-step preparation
- Pour the warm milk into the glass.
- Slowly pour the espresso over the back of a spoon so it settles between the milk and foam.
- Finish with a layer of milk foam on top.
Tip from De Koffiebaron: Pour slowly and use a tall glass to keep the layers clearly visible.
Tips from De Koffiebaron
- Use freshly brewed espresso for the best layer contrast.
- Lightly froth the milk for a softer foam layer.
- Add vanilla or caramel syrup to the milk for a sweeter variation.
- Serve immediately for the best layered effect.
Which coffee fits best?
For a classic Latte Macchiato, we recommend the following coffees from our assortment:
- Lavazza Qualità Rossa beans – a balanced espresso blend with chocolate and fruity notes, perfect for milk-based coffees.
